Exceptionally Rare Middle Eastern Travelling Hookah Pipe
An exceptionally rare Mughal ivory portable Hugga, India, late 18th century. Mobile huggas were designed to be held by the smoker and were in vogue amongst the upper classes from the 17th century on, depicted in miniature paintings of the period. Examples see M Zebrowski, Gold, Silver & Bronze from Mughal India p. 238, figs 403, 405.
- Heart shaped and ivory bowl
- European white metal mounts (tested Silver)
Condition: Age related condition. Small pieces of ivory missing and no smoking tube.
